What Necessary Features an ERP Solution must provide?

Bista Solutions Inc. - Open Source Applications

Today in this competitive world I can say that when you start searching for any kind of software there are lot of choices in front of you to select the kind of software which can not only complete your basic or present need but they are ready to solve your future requirements for eg: when you want to evaluate a software for retail or wholesale distribution you will find that the glass is full enough to quench your thirst.
We all know that to quench you thirst there is no need to drink the whole river or sea. Hence there is a need to select the best out of thousand or hundred, so what are the things you need to consider before selecting the best out of thousand?
This question always arise in terms of selecting Enterprise resource Planning software (ERP), which we all know we consider many factors such as costing, support, maintenance and much more other things, as we all know that failure may provide you with heavy loss on time and other factors. So what are the factors which every ERP software system must deliver for organisation that is into distribution?
1. The very basic thing must inclusive of a fully integrated warehouse management system (WMS) that can provide RF and barcode scanning, supporting multiple zones, locations, bins etc. It must allow different kinds of pick methods, such as through order, through area, through zone etc.
2. Of course the second most important thing is providing different inventory management techniques such as FIFO – First in First out, LIFO – Last In First Out and so on. Apart from this it must also provide a platform to select on the basis of Product and others.
 3. The ERP software system must comprise a fully-integrated e-Commerce module. The e-Commerce key ought to allow the distributor to assimilate back-end e-Commerce functionality with the distributor's active website and should give the distributor the ability to accept supplier responses to RFQ's over the Internet. This would helps in getting quick response to the query, as queries received now a day’s many company are integrating the same with their ERP software to get quick response from the customer. (The case is not from manufacturing background)
4. Fully-integrated financial management and accounting capabilities with multiple companies, divisions, legal entities, etc are considered to be one of the main requirements of an ERP solution, the accounting software should also allow the distributor to influence average, LIFO and other costing methods on Product by Product basis.
 5. Also the last one is that it must include forecasting and requirement planning capabilities to be used allowing the distributions organisation to generate the inventory plan.
One should remember that the above 5 are to be consider to be the basic and it might change as per the requirement of the Company
