Bista Solutions Inc. - Open Source Applications
The success and failure of any Free and Open source software (FOSS) or product depend on the popularity as on its community. Both are interrelated with each other as one cannot survive without other. Today no one want to work with a looser, be it is the case of any business, every dominating project organically erase competition and hence born as a Monopoly.
Lets take some of the examples of Enterprise business application, so when an ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) is concerned there are many open source ERP who has taken the lead one of them are OpenERP, other example onto a SME (Small & Medium Enterprise looking out for a Open Source CRM (Customer Relationship Management ) would like to go for vTiger or SugarCRM, similarly big enterprise might go for Compeire or in case of proprietary category Salesforce. Hence there are similar cases with other software category, although masses might not be able to describe that how an Open source is comparable to a closed source for eg any over-sensitive programmer is expected to have an installation of Linux on his or her home computer. These are all instance of commercially successful and dominant open source software businesses.
On a basic note it is secondarily price which plays a biggest role in influencing one’s final choice when going through for a product. Apart from the price there are other feature which provide buyer for selecting the software such as time required, dynamic feature, user friendly etc. Hence when the software is provided free of cost every one select best of the best solution to full fill the requirements quite obvious!
Another point onto the open source software is when you get source code and everything to play with the software the chances of innovating, modifying, customising and creating other opportunities increases which in turn provide a better platform for other new users.
